Dennis Herman 71, died in Port Orange, Florida, on December 1, 2023. Dennis was born on December 18, 1951 in Benton Harbor, MI to Arthur and Beverly Herman. He was a graduate of Benton Harbor High School Class of 1969. Having started in the restaurant business at Dog n Suds Drive In in Benton Harbor Dennis went on to work as a chef at various places in the area including Berrien Hills Country Club. In 1984 he moved to Daytona Beach, Florida and worked as an executive chef at Lake Beresford Country Club in Deland, Halifax River Yacht Club and the Daytona Hilton. Dennis was proud of his work as a chef and  cooked on occasion at a local church for Thanksgiving that catered to those in need.  Over the last several years, following an automobile accident that kept him from continuing as a chef, he worked as a poolside disc jockey. He dj’ed at Pirates Cove and the Tropical Manor in Daytona Beach. He once djed 168 hours, a world record at the time, raising $5000 for charity. Dennis was a lover of rock n roll, wrestling, the Chicago Bears and the Cubs.

Dennis is survived by his brother Arthur “Buddy” (Kris)Herman of Coloma, MI, sisters Jill (Brett Ogden) Svoboda of Three Rivers MI, Karin Thomas of Coloma, MI and brother in law Steve Shembarger of St. Joseph MI. Additionally, several nieces and nephews and good friends Dave Palmer, Hank Smith and Cecil Stice.

Dennis was preceded in death by his parents, sister Tammy Shembarger and sister in law Linda Herman. There will be no memorial service and his family suggests you buy a scratch off lottery ticket and listen to some of your favorite music in Dennis’ memory.
