Dennis Alvin Simmons, 71, of Southfield, MI, passed away on September 3, 2023. He was born on September 6, 1951, in Benton Harbor, MI. Dennis was a loving father, an amazing husband, and a proud grandfather. He was a kind and hilarious individual who was loved by all who knew him. Dennis had a strong faith in God and was a member of Hopewell Baptist Church where he occasionally played the piano. Dennis attended Benton Harbor High School and played the saxophone in the marching band. He later went on to pursue higher education at Western Michigan University in Kalamazoo Michigan where he resided for over 40 years and was a member of Bible Baptist Church. Dennis had a successful career at AT&T, formerly known as Michigan Bell, Ameritech, and SBC Global, where he worked as a Sales Representative for nearly 30 years. He was dedicated to his work and made lasting connections with his colleagues and clients. In his free time, Dennis enjoyed watching Michigan Football, NFL, NBA, and all things sports. He enjoyed going on runs/walks, exercising, and playing basketball. Dennis also enjoyed his homecooked meals and sweets. He enjoyed watching old Western Cowboy movies, History channel, and Nature shows. Dennis loved listening to music and attending concerts of some of his favorite artists such as Earth, Wind, and Fire, and various jazz artists. What he loved most was spending time with his wife, children, grandchildren and laughing with lifelong friends. Dennis is survived by his loving wife of 43 years, Ollie Simmons, whom he married on May 31,1980 at Hopewell Baptist Church. He is survived by his children, Alaina McMurtry of Bolingbrook, IL, Dorian Simmons (Veronica) of Wixom, MI, Danielle Quick (Daudi) of Columbus, Ohio, and Shelby Simmons of Dallas, TX.; eight grandchildren, Dillon McCadd, Logan McCadd, Aiden McMurtry, D. Aithan Simmons, Pepper Simmons, Ethan McMurtry, Dior and Dia Quick; his siblings, Roosevelt Simmons (Janie), Gloria Cleveland (Gregory), Joshlyn Blue (Eugene), and Lorri Mitchell (Ryan); his in-Laws, Marjorie Rodgers (Ervan Sr.), Stella Croft (Eddie), James Bell Jr., David Bell (Shirley), Lee Bell (Debrah); Goddaughter, Tiffany Mata (Junior), children Jaxon and Janae and an host of nieces and nephews Dennis loved dearly. Dennis was proceeded in death by his parents, Rev. John Athan Sr. and Pauline Simmons; brothers, John Athan Simmons Jr., Thomas Simmons, William Henry Simmons, Billie Joe Simmons, Robert James Simmons, and Alfred Elroy Simmons. Dennis Alvin Simmons will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all those whose lives he touched. May he rest in peace.
