Irene Potts

BENTON HARBOR - Irene (Puddin) Potts, 61, of Benton Harbor passed away Saturday, Dec. 29, 2012, at home, surrounded by her family. Funeral services celebrating her life will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Jan. 7, 2013, with visitation at 10 a.m., at Second Baptist Church, 600 Donald Adkins Drive, Benton Harbor.

Irene was born March 14, 1951, in Blytheville, Ark., to Laura and L.C. Potts, who preceded her in death. After high school she graduated from Eastern Michigan University with a degree in business. Irene (Puddin) was employed at Whirlpool Corp. and Benton Harbor Area Schools for many years and later managed Marche' Fashion, a family business she helped start. She was a member of the Lily of Valley Order of Eastern Star and auxiliary of the Dorie Miller American Legion and member of Delta Sigma Theta sorority.

Irene is survived by her granddaughter, Latoria Potts, of Portage, Ind.; and Thai Martin of Benton Harbor, whom she raised as a granddaughter. She also is survived by five sisters, Bertha Yancey of Cape Coral, Fla., Gloria Viel, Claretha Potts and Idell Potts, all of Benton Harbor, and Ella (Perry) Davis of Stevensville; two brothers, John (Darlene) Potts of Benton Harbor and Daniel (Cheryl) Potts of Merrillville, Ind.; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Irene was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Torrey Sherron Potts; a brother, Louis Potts; and a brother-in-law, Arthur Viel.
